10 Growth Habits
Jan 14, 2024Old habits die hard…
I cannot change - thats the way I am wired….
I am too old to re learn how to do this…
This is how we have always done it…
How many times have you heard this or even said it to yourself ?
The wind of change is a difficult force to face head on, however it is entirely necessary to embrace if you are looking for your founder-led business to be a success.
I know this is a couple of other peoples theories smashed together - but for me they work beautifully. It is in fact, 3 Carol Dweck (check out her TedTalk from 2014) on mindset, then as a I cannot single out one …. James Clear and BJ Fogg (thanks Mike Coulter for the introduction) on habits like a self-help super group….
Psychology pioneer Carol Dweck illuminated the power of fixed vs. growth mindsets. In the business world, this translates to viewing challenges as roadblocks versus stepping stones. A fixed mindset clings to perceived limitations, while a growth mindset thrives on continuous learning and adaptation. This shift in perspective unleashes the potential for boundless expansion.
But how do we translate this mindset into tangible action?
Enter stage left BJ Fogg and James Clear, the behavioral science gurus who demystify the art of habit formation. They remind us that lasting change doesn't require monumental overhaul, but the consistent application of micro-adjustments.
Every small win, every efficient process streamlined, every hurdle overcome, contributes to a compounding effect of progress.
We all know we should be ice bathing and downing sea moss before 4.00am however what habits can you adopt in your business life to change the dial ? Obviously everyone’s business is inherently unique but there are some habits I have adopted in the past and have seen been executed to great effect in other businesses I have coached.
So let's ditch the self-sabotaging stagnation and ignite the engine of sustainable growth.
Here are 10 potent "tiny habits" to propel your business:
1. Celebrate Incremental Progress: Ditch the "all or nothing" mentality. Embrace "done is better than perfect" and celebrate milestones, regardless of size.
2. Befriend the Micro-Action: Start small, focus on manageable adjustments like dedicating 15 minutes to daily learning or automating repetitive tasks. Consistency is key.
3. Reduce Friction Points: Identify and eliminate obstacles that impede progress. Streamline workflows, delegate effectively, and leverage technology to minimize unnecessary effort.
4. Build Your Growth Ecosystem: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals, engage in peer mentorship, and seek out inspiring role models. Shared accountability and knowledge exchange fuel collective growth.
5. Quantify Your Wins: Track progress, measure key metrics, and celebrate achievements, big and small. Seeing tangible evidence of progress reinforces motivation.
6. Embrace the "Ugly Duckling Phase:** Not every experiment will be a resounding success. View setbacks as learning opportunities and iterate with agility. Progress often lies beyond the initial stumble.
7. Reward Yourself Strategically: Celebrate milestones with non-destructive rewards, like enjoying a healthy meal or taking a well-deserved break. Reinforce positive behaviors without hindering productivity.
8. Prioritize Rest and Reflection: Sleep isn't a luxury, it's a growth catalyst. Prioritize sufficient rest to boost focus, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
9. Never Stop Learning: Immerse yourself in knowledge. Devour industry publications, attend conferences, and actively seek out new perspectives. Continuous learning fuels innovation and agility.
10. Embrace Uncomfortable Growth: Challenge yourself beyond your comfort zone. Take calculated risks, experiment with new strategies, and push the boundaries of your vision.
Remember, business isn't a static sprint, it's a dynamic marathon. Cultivate a growth mindset, embrace the power of tiny habits, and watch your enterprise break free from the shackles of stasis.
